Hanging with Heroes :: Event Recap

Last weekend we had a fantastic morning hanging out at The Umbrella Bar high up on the hill of The Rock Complex in Franklin for our first annual Hanging with Heroes Event! We had a bright sun in the sky and even brighter smiles on families’ faces as they enjoyed all the fun activities this event had to offer. Thanks to North Shore Bank, who made this event possible, we welcomed about 200 people to enjoy a morning filled with bubbles, bouncing, baseball, BubbleBall and of course….Superheroes!

Hanging with Heroes

The Venue :: The Rock Complex and Umbrella Bar

The Rock Complex is a venue unlike any other in the Milwaukee area. Not only do they have MLB replica fields for leagues to play on, snow hills to tube down in the winter, and bike trails to tear it up on….they also have The Umbrella Bar. Set atop a hill, this pavilion allows people to watch the games below while sipping a drink and taking in the best sunsets in the area. It’s hard to beat the view! Be sure to check them out this summer, especially since they have a live music series that is very popular. Thanks to The Rock, we were even able to welcome players and coaches from The Milwaukee Wave as well as Brad Beach!

The Food :: Angelic Bakehouse, FLYJOY and Fruigees

An event about superheroes calls for superfoods – foods made from real ingredients that make you feel good. We are proud to feature one of our favorite local brands, Angelic Bakehouse, a Cudahy-based company that specializes in creating products with sprouted grains. Everyone loved the strawberry wraps and 7-grain bread served on site, plus the wraps that everyone got in their swag bags. You’ll find Angelic products all over the Milwaukee area!

We also had great snacks for both the swag bags and the food table from FLYJOY and Fruigees. FLYJOY makes balanced quinoa energy bars are made with only the highest quality ingredients like quinoa, chia, and flax, giving your body the fuel it needs to live life to the fullest. And if you’re looking for a convenient snack solution on the go, give Fruigees a try! Fruigees is the organic fruit snack in a squeeze pack made from 1/2 cup of fruit and veggie juices. Unlike most squeeze packs made from purees and applesauce, Fruigees uses juice to give their snacks bold, bright flavors and a unique, smooth consistency. Each Fruigees offers everyone a low calorie snack with no added sugar and 100% daily value of vitamin C. USDA organic, non-GMO verified, kosher, naturally gluten-free, and vegan.

The Sponsors and Activities

The heart of this event was highlighting local heroes as well as businesses who are interested in the next generation of heroes and we were over-the-moon with the variety of fun activities and resources for families that were presented.

North Shore BankWe were thrilled to have North Shore Bank as a Title Sponsor for this event! North Shore Bank is an advocate for its customers and communities, lending them support since 1923. Southwest YMCA, Kids in Motion, Target ::

With five locations around the greater Milwaukee area, there is sure to be a Southwest YMCA facility near you. The Y is so much more that most people know. They are a welcoming place to connect and learn with others. The folks from Kids in Motion got to chat about this amazing indoor play space in New Berlin that offers the perfect solution for parents on rainy days, the months when the weather turns cold, or just when the kids need to get the sillies out and parents need a break. Plus, they gave away a free week of summer camp! And our friends from the Franklin and Racine Target stores had a blast sharing all kinds of fun goodies with families, from reusable Target totes to bubble bottles and so much more. We all know how much moms love Target!

We love how much fun these books are and both parents and kids really enjoyed checking out all the colorful options. Ink to the People helped kids make their own superhero capes and also got to show off the custom shirts they have created to help MKE Moms Blog support area non-profits, especially featuring our LoveMKE and Local Hero Shirts that are currently on sale to benefit Camp Hometown Heroes until July! The Prairie School was on site with fun activities as well as sharing more info about their private school that helps prepare kids for college starting at the earliest grade levels.

The Superheroes

Everyone would agree that one of the biggest highlights of this event was the amazing team of superheroes that came to hang out with families, posing for photos and really delighting every kid they met. Spiderman, Wonder Woman and Batman were able to be there on behalf of Dream Parties, a company Milwaukee parents are going to want to remember. Not only do they have phenomenal superheroes, but also princesses! If you have a birthday party or other event coming up where you’ll need a character appearance, definitely give Dream Parties a call! We love working with them and their characters are top notch.
