When the COVID vaccine was first released, in the winter of 2020, it was really difficult to secure a vaccine slot. My husband is a health care worker and was in one of the very first groups—as a hospital employee, his vaccine was easier to schedule. But by the time my 70-something-year-old parents were eligible, it was NOT easy.

I remember the excitement we all felt… that FINALLY there was a way to protect our loved ones. And particularly loved ones who were at elevated risk of complications from COVID, or who were at elevated risk of exposure as a frontline worker (like my husband). I cried happy tears after my parents completed their second round of COVID vaccines and I felt so hopeful.

Easy to Schedule and Readily Available

Fast forward a year later and now my kids are also fully vaccinated. The good news is that it was extremely easy to schedule their vaccines and COVID vaccines are easily accessible in our community for everyone ages 5 and older. Finding a location to get a vaccine and making a plan to get it done will be the easiest thing you do today.

If you are still on the fence about whether or not a COVID vaccine is the right choice for your family, please check out our recent post just the facts and just the FAQs. Milwaukee Mom is once again proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to share with moms in our community where to find COVID vaccines for everyone in their families.

COVID vaccines are completely free for everyone, regardless of your health and immigration status. You will not be charged now, or anytime in the future, for a vaccine.

The COVID vaccine is the greatest hope we have for our Milwaukee community to overcome the pandemic and return to normal activities. Although children may not have as serious of symptoms compared to adults, the new variants of the virus are more easily spread. By having our children vaccinated, we help protect others, especially those who are at higher risk for complications from COVID.
