June Mom is so much different than July Mom. She had lofty aspirations, goals and dreams. Fantasies of homemade popsicles, lemonade stands, nature walks, and craft projects using organic glue (is that even a thing?). She’s gone now. In her place is July Mom, also known as Real Summer Mom, the mom who has come to terms with the fact that summer brings with it several challenges that June Mom was not quite ready to face with her children:
- Quickly disintegrating attention spans
- Increased temperatures and humidity
- The need to just sit still for a minute, for crying out loud.
For me, the movie theater has become my sanctuary, my survival strategy when summer kicks into high gear and threatens to push my patience to the brink. Too hot outside to even think about going to the park? Movie theater. Can’t handle even the thought of getting allllll the beach stuff back in the van when you haven’t finished shoveling out all the sand from last time? Movie theater. Kids have asked to watch the same 22 minute show for the fourteenth time in a row and you know you will snap if you hear it again? Movie theater. Need to just kinda sorta rest your eyes for about 90 minutes while your kids are safe and entertained? Movie theater.
A trip to the movie theater is my go-to Mom Move in the summer and I’m here to tell you it is a game-changer.

My pick for a movie theater in the greater Milwaukee area is Marcus Majestic Cinema of Brookfield. They have glorious DreamLounger reclining seats that are super comfy and my kids love them because…..buttons. At Marcus Majestic Cinema, you can count on plenty of showtimes for all your favorite movies, but they also have several special offerings to keep things affordable and interesting for the entire family for for you and your friends!
The Best New Movies for My Family on Our Schedule
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve noticed that it’s been a heck of a summer for movies. From Aladdin to Toy Story 4 and then a little movie we might remember called The Lion King, it is a pretty amazing time to be alive. We have seriously found ourselves in awe of the number of movies we want to see as a family right now! Our favorite thing about going to Marcus Majestic Cinema of Brookfield as a family is using the handy Marcus Theatres app to buy our tickets and choose our seats in advance so we can make our movie visits work around our crazy schedules and we don’t have to devote a bunch of extra time to making sure we are there crazy early to get “good seats.” On top of it, we sometimes opt to get tickets in the Big Screen Bistro so we can order a pizza or cheese curds or any of the other delicious items from the Take Five Bistro menu directly from our seats in the theater so we can cross dinner and a movie off our list in one move without having to set aside extra time. It’s so helpful for busy families who don’t have a bunch of time to spare!
Movie-going Made Affordable
When done right, going out to a movie can be a super-affordable outing for families! Tuesdays are the BEST day to see a movie at Marcus Majestic Cinema of Brookfield, especially if you are a Marcus Magical Rewards member. Not only are tickets only $5 across the board (which is a huuuuuuge savings in and of itself), but your Rewards card gets you free popcorn and massive deals on some of the most popular concession items. I know I can’t be the only mom who has bought tickets for a 8:50 am movie and fed her kids popcorn for breakfast!
In addition to the latest new releases being available for just $5 on every Tuesday, there are plenty of other opportunities to kick back and enjoy the air-conditioning and entertainment at Marcus Majestic Cinema! My top picks are the Kids Dream Family Film Series and Enchanted Tales Film Series, where beloved Disney films like Cinderella, Moana and The Little Mermaid come back to the big screen.
Because Sometimes Mom Needs a Night Out
Yes, I love going to the movies with my kids. I also like to go to the movies without my kids so I can see the entire movie without missing bits and pieces for potty breaks, answering numerous questions like characters’ favorite foods and “Who is dat?” When it’s grown-up time at the movies, we love hanging out in the Take Five Lounge for a pre-show cocktail or really getting wild and trying out one of the cool special events that are often held at Marcus Majestic, like the Retro Series where some of our favorite Rom-Coms are brought back to the big screen.
For all these reasons and more, if you’re blowing up my phone this summer and not hearing back from me, it’s probably because it’s on silent mode in my bag while I kick back and relax in the cool comfort of Marcus Majestic Cinema!
