Honoring the Children We’ve Lost

0

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a mere few weeks of the year set aside to open the door to conversations where we can be honest. We can remember and honor the babies we have lost, whether we were able to hold them in our arms or if we never had the joy of meeting them face to face. According to national estimates, roughly 15 to 20 percent of pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage before the 20th week. Still more are lost after that threshold and mothers have had to face the delivery room, but without the joy at the end.

I have often heard women say that they had no idea so many others have suffered through a miscarriage. Many believe they are alone, that they did something wrong, that no one understands.

We are here to say we have been there. You did nothing wrong. We understand.

My second baby was lost to a miscarriage. I never got to find out if that child was a son or a daughter, but I clearly remember the changes they made in my body before they left it. They had a presence, they existed, they mattered.

I have also known too many mothers who have held their babies in their arms only to have to give them back. They have felt the ache of an empty womb, the burn of the milk filling their breasts with nowhere to go, the heartbreak of a nursery without a baby.

We want to help you remember these little lives and provide a place for their name to live, a place where you can see it and others will see it and be able to know THEY LIVED.

If you would like to add your child to our Forever Loved wall, we would be honored to remember them with you.

CLICK HERE to fill out the Forever Loved form and we will do our best to get every name up on the wall within a couple days.

We will keep this wall linked with the above picture on our sidebar for the month of October, but you will always be able to access the Forever Loved page from our main menu.
