Gyms with Child Care
No matter what stage of motherhood you are in, finding time for yourself can be a challenge. However, that time is so important. How can you find that time, plus get some self-care? Gyms with child care!
What are these magical places I’m speaking of?
I first discovered gyms with child care when my twins were three and my oldest was five. We had just ended our second winter of isolation, so all three boys were home with me. All. The. Time.
I was constantly feeling tired, alone, and needed a break. A gym may not be the first thing you think of when you’re thinking “break,” but it really was a sanity saver.
For one monthly fee, I was able to drop the boys off in a safe, fun environment. I could workout, take a shower, or even get a cup of coffee alone. I saw other moms there, and realized we all used gyms with child care for different reasons.
Gyms with child care don’t have a requirement for how you spend your child-free time. If I didn’t feel like working out, but needed a break, I brought my laptop and did a little writing. Sometimes, I would just walk around the track, and then relax in the hottub. Other moms met for coffee or chatted in the sauna. You can be as social (or in my case, antisocial) as you want.
Meanwhile, my kids got to make friends and work on being separated from me. It was great training for preschool!
Now that my kids are in school, I still sign up for child care during the summer. I drop them off, go take a class, and then we all go spend time in the pool together. No need to worry about finding a babysitter, and if something is ever wrong, the child care knows right where to find me.
Gyms with Child Care in the Milwaukee Area
Not everyone has the same likes/dislikes when it comes to working out. Parents have different needs when it comes to child care, as well. Luckily, there are many choices for gyms with child care around the Milwaukee area.
When I first joined, I chose the YMCA. Membership allowed us to use five different locations, and we received discounts on their kids’ classes. Their child care was very interactive, allowing my boys to play and do crafts.
What other gyms with child care are out there? I asked my fellow contributors for their recommendations.
Kate and Kelsey are members of Wisconsin Athletic Club. Kelsey loves the staff there. They are engaged with the kids, will feed bottles, and change diapers. As a gym, the WAC has everything: good class schedule, nice locker room, and friendly staff. Kate’s kids ASK to go to their child care and two of the locations have club pubs (food/drinks) on site. So, it’s a great, cheap date!
Heather loves Form & Fitness because it’s clean, the equipment is nice, and it’s very non-threatening. She loves the child care because they actually play with the kids! They have a camera in the child care linked to one of the TV stations on the equipment, which is great for accountability of the staff. There’s a coffee bar and fireplace to take a break or get some work done, as well.
Karri loves Barre District. Childcare isn’t offered for all classes, but you can find out which ones have it on their app. It’s staffed by moms who are members and love kids. As for the gym itself, she loves it for the community it fosters. The people are so supportive, non-judgmental, and welcoming to anyone. Plus, the classes are fun!
Lauren and Marnia both enjoy Burn Boot Camp. Marnia’s daughter loves to go to childcare. Both ladies enjoy the high intensity 45 minute workout. Lauren says it’s like having a personal trainer embedded in a strong community, while Marnia says it makes her feel like she’s accomplished something.
Dolores votes for Princeton Club. The atmosphere is great. Kids have a gym to choose from, special classes to attend, or a play area. Plus their indoor pool is zero-depth and has a water slide!
Shauna loves Elite Sports Clubs for the variety of classes that they offer, and the fact that you can use the gym and child care while you work in their lobby if you choose.
