Milwaukee Mom Flight :: Beer and Art {EVENT RECAP}

When you live in Milwaukee, beer isn’t just an option on the drink menu. It’s part of our local color. We are so excited to launch an wonderful new event series for moms that combines the craft beer artistry of the Brew City with the local businesses that make our city amazing. With so many breweries to choose from, it was too tough to pick just one… we ordered a flight!

First Stop :: Beer and Art with Brenner Brewing Company

Beer and Art

Part of the beauty of the Milwaukee Mom Flight is that we get to really showcase the talent and personality of each individual brewery. Brenner Brewing Company in Walker’s Point stand out from the rest not just because of their striking building that jumps out at any passerby, but because of their unique brews and devotion to supporting local Milwaukee artists. It’s hard not to love a beer called Butterfly Farts that is packaged with the artwork of a local artist. And you know what? The beer is good. REALLY good. They have a beer called the Bacon Bomb that, I kid you not, smells and tastes like bacon. But not in a weird way, but in smoky, full-bodied, smooth kind of way. It’s amazing.

The Food :: Miss Cupcake and Milwaukee Pretzel Company

milwaukee pretzel companyNot much goes better with beer than pretzels! Thank you to Milwaukee Pretzel Company for the crispy on the outside soft on the inside perfect amount of salty and doughy and amazing pretzels our moms enjoyed with their beer. Check out their website for a variety of options for events of all sizes, from pretzel bites to huge spreads with an assortment of dips.

Miss Cupcake

And cupcakes!! What a treat to have Miss Cupcake on site with two varieties of cupcakes made with….you guessed it….BEER! Ashley (Miss Cupcake herself) made Pretzel & Stout cupcakes as well as a second variety made with Brenner Brewing Company‘s own City Fox Pale Ale and topped with pretzel frosting and peanuts.

The Artists :: Bigshot Robot, Nicole Whelan, Shacream Artist and Kelly Maddern

Since Mike Brenner founded the brewery with a commitment to local art, we knew we had to highlight some of Milwaukee’s own artists we knew moms would love. Every mom received a beautiful coloring book in their swag bag and everyone enjoyed chatting and sipping their Brenner brews while coloring their beautiful pages filled with everything from intricate owls to ocean life. Check out Nicole Whelan, Shacream Artist and Kelly Maddern to grab one of their coloring books for your very own!

We were thrilled to have a fantastic artist right on site, creating an original painting right before our eyes. Thank you to Bigshot Robot for joining us and painting a fantastic elephant canvas that one lucky mom won and got to take home at the end of the evening!

The Local Shops :: SquareOne Soapworks, Kelly’s adornable.u Jewelry Box, Rep Wisconsin, Paper Pleasers

One of the best things we get to do at MkeMB is to shine the spotlight on local small businesses we love and the Beer and Art event was no exception. Four pop-up shops joined us and our moms enjoyed shopping for everything from chocolate & wine soap and hoop earrings to Milwaukee apparel, mugs and candles!

SquareOne Soapworks — A small, home-based business, run by a mother-daughter duo who believe that what we put on our body is just as important as what we put in our body! They even make beer soap!

Kelly’s adornable.u Jewelry Box — AdornableU is more than just jewelry. It’s about an outward display of the inner beauty that comes from pursuing our passions and investing in what we love.

Rep Wisconsin — Show your home state (and Milwaukee!) pride with shirts, hats, magnets and other custom pieces that are on trend and high quality. Our moms went crazy for the “Living that Wisconsin Mom Life” t-shirt! Find them at The Waxwing and Hometown Established

Paper Pleasers — Local mom Ellen’s business originated as a custom invitation and stationery business. This is still a significant part of what she does, but over the years, she has expanded to include a variety of products. She has a bi-monthly mail subscription product called PaperPleasing Mail where handmade cards and paper goodies are delivered directly to your mailbox. She also has a line of products featuring her artwork of the skyline of Milwaukee and handmade reclaimed wood “Love Where You Live” signs!

Swag and Giveaway Sponsors

In addition to receiving a swag bag from Blick Art Supplies with coloring pencils and a ton of other goodies from many of the local businesses you see listed, we had so many fantastic giveaways for our moms to enter to win. Not a single person left empty-handed! Huge thank you to all of the following sponsors who helped to spoil our mamas!

As it turns out, when you invite a bunch of moms to come together for beer and art, some pretty cool things happen. It was so neat to see everyone sitting together and chatting, making new friends and strengthening existing ones. We can’t wait to do it again!

Laughter - Mom Flight 600x503

We hope you will join us on the next stop on our Milwaukee Mom Flight on July 14th when we invade Enlightened Brewing Company for a night of Beer and LaughterFollow along on the Facebook Event Page to stay in-the-know about all the details! Tickets for this first event sold out in just minutes, so we expect the second one to go just as quickly. You won’t want to miss it!

As always, we couldn’t do events like this without the hard work and support of our MkeMB team! A huge thank you to those who volunteered their time and energy to work together to make this event awesome, from painting beer bottles to stuffing swag bags. So grateful for these women and their commitment to creating opportunities to build community for the moms of Milwaukee.

A huge thank you is due to Melissa Morgan Photography for capturing the fun of the evening.

We look forward to seeing lots of Milwaukee moms at more MKE Moms Blog events in the future!
