Moreland OB-GYN & Associates has launched new resources and services to support mothers and address the increased occurrence of postpartum depression.
Waukesha, WI – Moreland OB-GYN & Associates, a women’s health care organization serving Waukesha County and the surrounding communities, announced recently that it has launched new resources and services to support the recently increased risk of postpartum depression. Offerings include consultation with a postpartum outreach nurse, expanded prenatal and postnatal telemedicine support, and access to online educational resources to guide women through the fourth trimester following pregnancy.
“Pregnancy can cause unprecedented levels of worry and anxiety for women in normal times with one out of every eight women experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression,” said Jessica Herzberg, M.D. with Moreland OB-GYN & Associates. “Add in a global pandemic, and the numbers rise to the point where recent studies have shown that 36-percent (more than one in three) pregnant and postpartum women have had significant levels of depression.”
Since early 2020, Moreland OB-GYN has continued to safely conduct examinations and postnatal services under new protocols with an increased focus on patient education and additional time to counsel and provide support. The latest resource enhancements include:
Postpartum Care Outreach Nurse: Moreland’s unique postpartum care outreach nurse follows up after a baby’s arrival to assess a patient’s emotional wellbeing. She offers resources that help empower patients to work through mental health issues and aligns new moms with a behavioral health therapist from any of Moreland’s counseling partners when needed.
Expanded Virtual Care: A new telehealth program in conjunction with in-office examinations following CDC recommended protocols has allowed patients to avoid any disruption in care.
Fourth Trimester Resources: The fourth trimester is a critical time for a mother and her partner. Moreland OB-GYN’s new educational online resources provide a comprehensive guide to navigating the 12 weeks following a baby’s arrival.
Dr. Herzberg added, “The perinatal period is a time in which women are particularly vulnerable to mental health concerns. Our new resources arose from an essential need during the COVID-19 pandemic, but will continue to offer our patients critical support in the years to come.
