I’ve always been an advocate of “me-time” for moms. That’s our time to refresh and reset. My daily “me-time” routine is morning chai and reading before my daughter wakes up and we tackle the day. Every now and then, “me-time” means a few free hours to get out of the house; and when those sweet moments come, I head to my local downtown area in Waukesha.
Waukesha is infamous for it’s one-way streets and complicated intersections. Believe me, I’ve lived here for my entire life and I still get confused. But, in the past few years, Waukesha has been bustling with new boutiques and restaurant renovations which have brought the downtown to life. Making it the perfect scene for some time to myself.
Theses are (some of my) top picks:
Steaming Cup
Steaming Cup was established in 2004 right in historical downtown Waukesha. The shop offers a wide selection of coffee and tea, as well as live music events featuring local artists. During the nice weather, the outdoor seating is the perfect place to drink a chai and read a book.

Crush Wine Bar
It’s not secret that I love a glass of wine and Crush Wine Bar right off of Main Street is a great place to try new wines from small batch wineries. The owners invite customers in with a “Welcome!”, a smile, and a list of wines. What could be better than that?

The Farmer’s Daughter Collection
Located right next to Crush, The Farmer’s Daughter Collection is a boutique filled with a collection of jewelry, rugs, pottery and artifacts from New Mexico and Arizona. With my weakness for turquoise, I could (and do) spend a few hours taking in the beauty of it all.

People’s Park
Looking for amazing food and fun drinks? People’s Park is your place! I love going there for the wonton wrapped mozzarella sticks and speciality cocktails (because nothing screams Wisconsin like a good drink and cheese).

Allo! Chocolat
This shop, where do I even begin? It’s full of chocolate! How else is there to describe it other than a little piece of heaven? Allo! Chocolat is the place to be to indulge every craving!

I lived in Waukesha when I was a teenager, but I’ve never heard of any of these places. Guess I should go back and visit sometime!
A lot of the places are newer to the Waukesha area, just within the last couple of years! 🙂 It would be great to see you back!
