Cancer Survivorship Educational Health Fair

Join us at Ascension Wisconsin’s First Cancer Survivorship Educational Health fair that will be happening May 18th from 8:30 am-12:30p.m. This event is open to anyone in the public who is a cancer survivor or caregiver. At Ascension Wisconsin, we align with the National Cancer Institute’s definition of a cancer survivor as “An individual is considered a cancer survivor from the time of diagnosis through the balance of life. There are many types of survivors, including those living with cancer and those free of cancer.” We will be having multiple non-profit organizations attending: American Cancer Society, YMCA-Livestrong, Gilda’s Club, ABCD, Sisters Network, Triage Cancer, Wisconsin Ovarian Cancer Alliance, Kidney Cancer Association, Wisconsin Breast cancer Coalition, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, The leukemia and lymphoma society, zero prostate cancer, Cancer Hope Network. We will have additional community resources: Conservancy for healing and heritage, CURE clinic with Carroll University. A woman’s touch, Wauwatosa Wellness Spa and some of Ascension Resources: Lymphedema Therapists Genetic counselors, ostomy nurses, clinical research, pelvic rehab, social work, community impact.
At this event we will have additionally have breakout sessions where clinical experts share their knowledge about cancer survivorship. Topics include the following:
“Survivorship: Embracing The Future” Presented by Deanna M. Birling MSN, ANP-BC, AOCNP
“Decreasing My Risk For Recurrence” Presented by Dr. Hanadi BuAli MD, FACS, FSSO
“Understanding Lymphedema Risk, Prevention, and Treatment” Presented by Kimberly Bohmann, OT/CLT
“Exercise-Based Rehab for Cancer Survivors” Presented by Dr. Jessica Brown PhD.

As a National Cancer Survivor Day® event, it is also a “celebration for those who have survived, inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families and an outreach to the community.”
