Tiffany Kersten’s journey in 2021 wasn’t planned as a Big Year, but fate led her on an extraordinary path. As a survivor of sexual assault, she embarked on a nationwide expedition, not just to tally birds, but to advocate for women’s safety in outdoor spaces. Along the way, she distributed personal safety alarms and sparked vital conversations.
Her dual mission—to spot 700 bird species and raise awareness—was met with remarkable success. Tiffany surpassed her goal, sighting an astounding 726 species, setting a new record. In her presentation, she’ll share the highs and lows of her journey, exploring themes of fear, empowerment, struggle, and healing. Through her story, she illuminates the transformative power of resilience amidst the vast wilderness.
