Families can discover the fascinating world of pollinators when Powerful Pollinators opens at the Milwaukee County Zoo on May 23, 2026. This interactive seasonal experience runs through October 4, 2026, and invites guests to explore the important role pollinators play in protecting ecosystems and supporting the natural world!
Located outdoors near Wild Burger, the exhibit combines education, adventure, and hands-on fun for all ages.
STEP INTO THE WORLD OF POLLINATORS
Powerful Pollinators features more than 20 larger-than-life robotic creatures with realistic movement and sound effects. Families can walk among giant insects and pollinators while learning how these small but mighty species help plants, flowers, and food systems thrive.
Guests will also find photo opportunities and interactive climbable structures throughout the exhibit.
MEET SOME OF THE FEATURED CREATURES
Visitors will encounter a variety of unique pollinators and insects, including:
- Rusty-patched bumble bee: The only bee protected under the Federal Endangered Species Act. These rare bees can sometimes be found in southeastern Wisconsin.
- Goldenrod crab spider: Named for its crab-like appearance and ability to walk sideways.
- Red-banded leafhopper: Also called the candy-striped leafhopper, this tiny insect can jump up to 100 times its body length.
- Hummingbird clearwing moth: A daytime-active moth that hovers around flowers much like a hummingbird.
LEARN HOW THE ZOO SUPPORTS CONSERVATION
Throughout the experience, families will discover how the Milwaukee County Zoo supports pollinator conservation through native gardens, honeybee hives, and ongoing environmental initiatives.
The exhibit encourages children and adults alike to think about simple ways they can help pollinators at home and in their own communities.
SPECIAL ACTIVITY SERIES DAYS
Families can enjoy even more interactive learning during Activity Series days, held every Wednesday from Memorial Day through Labor Day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Designed for all ages and especially ideal for children ages 3 to 9, these themed days include:
Complete Missions: Kids can explore the exhibit, solve challenges, and participate in hands-on pollinator activities.
Unlock Rewards: Guests can collect limited-edition trading cards during June, July, and August while supplies last.
