(Milwaukee, WI):A year after its major renovation, Modrzejewski Playfield has become a vibrant community gathering space on Milwaukee’s south side. The redesign was shaped by neighborhood feedback, with residents helping guide the vision through community events and surveys to create a park that reflects the needs of local families.
Today, visitors can enjoy:
- Modern playground equipment
- A splash pad for summer fun
- Painted play spaces for active play
- New basketball courts
- Comfortable plaza seating
- Walking paths throughout the park
- A multi-purpose athletic field
- Improved lighting
- Shade structures
- An updated fieldhouse
- Renovated restrooms
- A remodeled community room
Whether you’re planning a playground outing, looking for a place to cool off on a hot day, or simply want to enjoy a walk or game of basketball, Modrzejewski Playfield offers something for all ages.
The park continues to evolve, too. Future improvements are planned for the far north end of the playfield as part of the KK River Corridor Project. Those updates will include scenic river views and connections to the proposed KK River Trail, making this neighborhood destination even more inviting in the years ahead.

Award-Winning Community Spaces
The impact of the renovations has already been recognized across the city. In May 2026, Milwaukee Recreation received a Mayor’s Design Award in the “Places and Spaces” category for the transformation of both Modrzejewski Playfield and Wick Playfield. The award celebrates projects that enhance Milwaukee’s neighborhoods through thoughtful design and community impact.
Both playfields officially reopened in 2025 following their extensive renovations, and today they continue to serve as welcoming spaces where families can play, gather, and enjoy the outdoors.
