Though it’s the dead of winter, it can be hard to get our heads around the fact that summer will be arriving in Wisconsin eventually and spring is a great time to plan ahead for what to do with the kids when school is out. That’s where summer camps come in!
We know that summer camps are at the top of the list of things moms need to figure out early. While summer makes many think of popsicles, parks, and festivals we KNOW as moms that it can also be a frustrating time where you are struggling to piece childcare together week by week and month by month. We hope that this guide provides the insight that you need to plan a fun and stress-free summer. This guide features programming options in Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee County, Wauwatosa, Brookfield, and so much more.
Milwaukee Area Summer Camps
Summer Day Camp at the Y is more than looking after kids. It’s about nurturing their development by providing a safe place to learn fundamental skills, build self-reliance, and establish healthy, trusting relationships. But most of all, Summer Day Camp at the Y offers an experience that is always so much fun!
The YMCA of Greater Waukesha County has planned an exciting variety of Summer Day Camp programs conveniently located at 14 different sites throughout our expanded service area. Our programs at the Y offer something for every child. Parents will have peace of mind knowing their children are in a safe and enriching environment with activities led by trained staff.
The Y has every intention of running our various camps this summer to provide a safe place and meaningful experience for children to spend their summer. Be assured that the Y is planning Summer Day Camp with the utmost concern for the health and safety of our day campers and staff. The Department of Children and Families has been guiding our program plans through this pandemic and will continue to do so throughout the summer. They have put in extensive measures for social distancing, disinfecting, and health and safety procedures that we will continue if needed throughout the summer.

We offer kids full-day and half-day camp experiences that are sure to entertain and delight! They will be wowed by green glowing liquid, messages written in secret code, autonomous robots, and mystery substances that change from solid to liquid in seconds. Camps held at many locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin and at our Lab in Franklin.

Virtual Tech Camps
The Nicolet Recreation Department continues to provide an exciting summer camp experience for K4-6th Graders! In addition to our core five-week program, we also offer a week of pre-camp & a week of post-camp. Activities include swimming, sports, arts and crafts, field trips, and more!
Summer I.D.E.A.S. at University School of Milwaukee provides academic, enrichment, athletics, and arts programs for children in grades PK (age 3) through grade 12. Our programs provide students from the greater Milwaukee area with opportunities to develop new skills, explore ares of interest, or learn core academic subjects both on our campus and throughout Milwaukee. Registration opens in February 2020. Be sure to register early to take advantage of our early registration discount.
We are very excited to offer campers online classes that will provide them with opportunities to engage with faculty and peers in meaningful ways throughout the summer. Offerings will include literacy, mathematics, and enrichment opportunities for grades 1-12. We will publish our online classes to our website in late May and will announce when our online registration system is updated. We look forward to seeing you this summer!
Lynden’s summer art and nature workshops integrate our collection of monumental outdoor sculpture and temporary installations with the natural ecology of our hidden landscapes and unique habitats. Led by Lynden education staff, these standalone outdoor workshops are built around biweekly themes that suggest imaginative possibilities and promote intimate discoveries in art and nature through collaborative (but well-distanced) inquiry and hands-on artmaking. Lynden is committed to making its programs available to all. Need-based tuition waivers are available.
We welcome kids as young as 2 years old to join us at the club this summer for three months of sports, games, fitness, and of course fun! Elite Sports Clubs offers a variety of camps, including our summer day camp “SCAMP” which includes tennis and swim lessons, or “Petite Elite SCAMP” & “Mini SCAMP” one-week half-day camps for the younger kids. We also offer Tennis Lessons, Swim Lessons, Dance Lessons, and Music Lessons. Sessions and packages vary to fit your family’s busy schedule this summer. So, choose what works best for you! Get 10% off any SCAMP program when you register by the end of February!

At Goldfish Swim School, we teach children how to swim and be safe in and around the water through guided play in a safe environment – what we call, the Science of SwimPlay. Our swim lesson curriculum has been proven to build confidence while learning how to swim in a fun, child-approved way. From our small class sizes, passionate swim instructors and heated shiver-free pool to our flexible class times and make up lessons; when you swim with Goldfish, you can expect a GOLDEN experience.

UWM at Washington County & Waukesha Summer STEM University camps are designed to meet the needs of highly motivated children between the ages of 8-14. We are eager to provide safe, fun, hands-on learning that will provide a foundation of skills that students will continue to build upon throughout their lives. These main skills: Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking and Creativity are the 4 C’s that employers are looking for. Everyone is going to have a great learning experience, no matter the delivery method! Most importantly, your child will have a safe, fun, hands-on learning experience that will provide a foundation of skills to continue to build on throughout their lives. Allow us to provide your child with the social interaction that they need, in a safe and controlled environment.
First Stage Theater Academy offers half-day and full-day theater training for students entering grades K-12 in fall 2020. Students will learn Acting, Musical Theater, Improvisation, and much more, developing life skills through stage skills. One, two, three, and four-weeks sessions offered, with locations in Milwaukee and Brookfield. Registration opens February 3, 2020.
First Stage Theater Academy will offer its curriculum of Acting, Musical Theater, and more, through weeklong virtual sessions this summer, led by professional theater artists. Summer Creative Arts Camps at Danceworks integrate dance and visual arts, along with music and drama, into one fun-filled program. Taught by experienced professionals, each week offers an age-appropriate theme that sparks imagination and creativity. The grand finale of each camp week is an informal performance for friends and family in the Danceworks Studio Theatre. Make new friends, use your imagination, create original artwork and experience the thrill of performing this summer at Danceworks!
Danceworks has planned an abbreviated version of our popular summer creative arts camps beginning mid-July. Although we will be offering fewer camps, our team of professional arts educators will deliver the same high-quality arts programming we have been offering for over 25 years. Exploration, creativity, and play are needed now more than ever. Danceworks is dedicated to helping students see the world through their own imagination. We hope you will join us this summer! Please note: Danceworks faculty has extensive experience in addressing a wide range of skills and abilities within a classroom. Our revised schedule will also consolidate ages, and camps will be appropriate for ages 5-11, with the exception of our 3-4 year-old camp, August 10 – 14.

Milwaukee Bucks Summer Camps presented by the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network provide a fun and team-oriented environment for boys and girls ages 7 to 15. These camps include instruction on ball handling, passing, shooting, defensive and offensive concepts with 5 on 5 scrimmages. Each Summer Camp participant will receive a basketball, performance tee, Bucks pennant, Bucks folder and a ticket to a 2020-21 Bucks home game.
This Intro to Irish Dance course will teach children the basics of Irish dance and culture along with introducing important skills such as balance, coordination, and teamwork. Trinity’s tri-fold philosophy of solo dancing, team dancing, and performance sets us apart and creates an atmosphere that sets children up for success as they take their own journey and carve their own path.
Summer EXPLORE! programs provide learning and social opportunities for boys from all schools entering grades 3-9 in fall 2020. Classes are offered in history, science, math, computer science, finance, German, movie making, drum set, and multi-discipline (academic/arts/athletics) as well as a variety of sport camps.

Check out what’s wild about Zoo Camps! These interactive and educational camps are available for children ages infant to 14. Zoo Camps, sponsored by Penzeys Spices, include animal information, hands-on learning, tours of the Milwaukee County Zoo and a lifetime of memories. Depending on age, parents can choose a half-day, full-day or weeklong camp.
The Summer Slide is real! Kids lose up to 2.6 months of math learning over summer. Sign up for the Mathnasium Summer Program by May 31 and receive $100 off!
Mathnasium will be offering [email protected] where students can engage in live math instruction from the comfort of their home. We plan to offer both [email protected] and in-center instruction for our families this summer.
Wisconsin Humane Society plans to run onsite camps in July and August. Onsite camps will have smaller camp sizes to accommodate social distancing and increased safety and cleaning measures.
In June, WHS will offer virtual camps. Virtual camps offer two hours of live interaction daily, and activities for campers to do on their own. Registration is name your own fee for virtual camps, with the option to purchase a $30 camp kit that includes a camp T-shirt and camp supplies shipped to your home. We are excited to run in-person camps in July and August. The health and safety of the young people who attend our programs is our top priority, and we have made some important changes to ensure safety, including:
- Limiting enrollment for each camp to eight students to maintain physical distancing
- Limiting the number of people in the shelter building for other services
- Asking families and staff to abide by a health policy and stay home if ill
- Increasing cleaning and handwashing at camp
- Moving as many of our camp activities outside as possible
- Requiring all campers and staff to wear masks when inside
Ebenezer Child Care Center’s STEAM’N Summer Program, June 8 – August 26 will teach children about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math and Nature in a fun and educational way. Children will be inspired to question things like a scientist; design like a technologist; build like an engineer; create like an artist; deduce like a mathematician; and play like a kid.
Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun in a supportive all-girl, girl-led environment. She can pick her own adventure to include paddle boarding around the lake, rock climbing, hiking, horseback riding, and more! With multiple camp locations throughout southeast Wisconsin, we’ve got her home away from home this summer—and at Girl Scout Camp, ALL girls are welcome!
SCC runs an annual ten-week summer cooking camp from June to August 2020 for kids between the ages of 5 to 16 years. These kids cooking classes have been developed to inspire excite and feed the curiosity of your growing Chef. They give the Junior Chefs the opportunity to experience a variety of cooking methods as they create delicious meals. The young chefs will have the opportunity to cook & have fun in the kitchen while learning the basics of etiquette & nutrition.
Calling all young art enthusiasts! Explore current exhibitions during fun-filled, interactive tours, and then enjoy hands-on projects in the Kohl’s Art Generation Studio. Each class has a different focus. Sign up for one camp—or the entire series! Scholarships are available!
Our 2-Day Themed Mini Dance Camps are perfect for your tiny dancer ages 3-5! Classes are held Tuesdays & Thursdays throughout the summer from 5:00 – 6:00pm beginning Tuesday, June 19th. Each week is a different themed class. This is a great way to experience dance all summer long! Cost: 1 Session for $25; 4 Sessions for $85; 7 Sessions for $150. Call or email the studio for details!

St. John’s Northwestern offers a summer experience that your child will remember for years to come. We offer camp options for boys and girls in grades 1-12, with a boarding option available for middle and high school campers. All St. John’s Northwestern camp experiences take place on its beautiful 110-acre campus in Delafield, WI – the heart of Waukesha county’s “Lake Country.”
Each day hundreds of children will be out in the sun having a blast. We are a faith based all-day program, held weekdays from 9 am to 3:30 pm (extended care available). Kids choose a different activity each week, while daily participating in all-camp games as well as large group worship and bible teaching. Camp Vertical is a high-energy, fast paced, fun environment for kids entering 2nd through 6th grade in the fall and Camp Zoom age 4 years old to those entering 1st grade. Starting this summer, in addition to our Brookfield campus we will now add locations at the Elmbrook-Lake Country for Weeks 4-8!
Keeping kids safe is our biggest priority and this summer is no exception. Though we won’t be hosting camp in it’s traditional format at Elmbrook Church this summer, our deepest desire in this season is to provide many resources and opportunities for your kids to engage throughout the summer.

Our Goal Is To Continue Camp in 2020. We are hopeful that by summer we will be able to run a safe summer camp experience. Currently, we are awaiting the CDC, the State and the local County to give us information on the requirements to make camp safe. We know many camps have closed making camp bunks in extremely short supply. So ensure your child’s spot today, pay only a $100 Refundable Deposit with application. We will refund all money if the CDC says it is not safe to run camp.
Milwaukee Milkmen coaches and players invite you to experience the fun and excitement of Milkmen Baseball during our 2020 Summer Youth Baseball Camps. Boys & girls ages 6-13 will learn the fundamentals through one-on-one and group instruction led by Milwaukee Milkmen Manager Anthony Barone. The camp will reinforce the fundamentals of hitting, catching, and throwing in a fun atmosphere.
